New gallery now online!

Discussed several times in the past but never tried, I thought it would be worth a shot and see how it is received - an Off Topic Photo Gallery for NPN members (only) to post their "non nature" photos.

All of us obviously enjoy nature photography first and foremost, and NPN will always remain a nature photography site first and foremost! But based on previous discussions, it's evident that many members enjoy photographing other subjects as well. The new gallery is intended for us to share our "other" photos.

A few notes;

1. Like the member Photo gallery, any photo posted in the Off Topic gallery is not eligible for the weekly picks.

2. Like the other NPN IC galleries, all threads are automatically deleted after 35 days.

3. Obviously "G-rated" photos only!

4. I will have the software modified so that photos in this gallery do not show on the "All Photos" page.

5. The new Off Topics photo gallery replaces the former "Photo Series" gallery which received very limited use.

We hope you enjoy the new gallery. If it is well-received and enjoyed by our members, we will keep it online.

As always, your thoughts and suggestions on this "experiment" are appeciated.

This sounds pretty cool, Jim. It will be interesting to see how the photos influence a member's nature photography, and vice versa.

Good idea Jim. I suspect there are a lot of us who are part of this community who also have non-nature photographic interests. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of things show up here. I must add that I'm impressed by how well you run NPN both technically and in keeping it interesting and relevant for the members.

Excellent. I think this will prove to be one of the more active forums. I think we're all out to capture something to share whether its nature oriented or not.

I've been pondering an 'experimental' forum for the last few weeks. It would offer a venue to post work in progress when the objectivity of others might be helpful or perhaps feedback from others when trying a new technique one isn't familiar with.

For members such as me, who are in remote locations, it would be a helpful resource. Do you think this forum might double as that?

Update - Off Topic photos no longer appear on the All Photos thumbnails page. I think it's important to maintain the integrity of NPN as a nature site and is the reason I think OT photos should be separated in this way. But all you have to do is visit the Off Topics photo gallery to see what's being posted there!

Based on the activity in the new Off Topic Photos gallery, I think it's going to be a winner! Some seriously cool photos being posted there - be sure to check it out!

My popup index still has it labeled "Photo Series." Very cool idea Jim!
