Female Kestrel with Starling
Hi Guys,

I have been posting the regular Avian and Macro forum, but have not posted anythingg over here for a while, so here's a first..

Was looking for my favourite Buzzard this afternoon, but instead i found this girl hanging out on his spot! She had just caught a Starling and was enjoying her meal!
Hope you have a strong stomach!

Greetings,

Jeroen Stel

Hi Jeroen, welcome to UKNP. I think your photo is very interesting. Kestrels don't normally take birds, so this shows some very special behaviour. Technicaly wise, it seems you had some difficult light, I think you have a bluish cast in the photo, and that the yellow is a bit oversaturated. But all in all, a photo I would love to have taken. :toast:

Aside from the slight blue cast, this is a cracking photo IMO. The head turn is great, and even the dead starling is positioned nicely, allowing the viewer to see the 'carnage', with nothing hidden by the post.

Welcome to UKNP - looking forward to seeing more of your photos over here!

Hi Jeroen,

I see your pics on Naturescapes.net. This is very good showing how the Kestrel feeds. Slight blue already mentioned.

Hi Guys,

Here's a final version where i tried to remove the Blue cast, and used a bit of CCW rotation..

Hope you like this one better..

Greetings,

Nice capture, especially the position of both birds!

Welcome to UKNP. :wavey:

Excellent behavioural image. The head turn and expression makes it for me.
