Jelly Ear fungus
Hi All,

This is a jelly Ear fungus that I found in my local woodland this morning. The techs were:

Nikon D2X, Sigma 150mm macro, 1/2 sec at f10, 055PRO, ball head

Thanks to everybody who replied on my last post.

Regards Chris

Well I've not seen one of these before, aptly named methinks! Nice composition and lighting. :toast:

Nice specimen! I might consider cloning out the piece poking into the top left hand corner, but that's only minor and down to personal preference anyway.

Like Paul its not something I've seen or heard of before - but you've certainly captured it well. Nicely composed exposed.

I like it! Was it growing on Elder (Sambucus nigra)? Its latin name is Auricularia auricula-judae alluding to its older name of Jew's Ear as Juda Iscariot is supposed to have been hung on an Elder tree. Apparently it is edible raw or cooked
Excellent image well lit.

I was going to say it should be Jew's ear fungus but david beat me to it. Perhaps Chris is just being PC  Lovely shot, lots of detail and very good composition. You can eat them but they're as tough as old boots!

Hi David,

It was growing on Elder. I wish I'd known it was edible as I was starving trying to get a good shot of this!

regards Chris
