Winter Orchard
D2x
1/50 s @ f/8

While Marc and Zack were south of me enjoying the beatific sunrise on Mt Hood. I was in the gray, gray, gray and seriously cold Hood River Valley trying to create my own kind of art.
It was such a gray day that I figured I'd change everything into B&W.

What do you think?

Mark,
I guess you were on our side of the fence this morning on the east side. The trees in the foreground lined up and bare with the converging lines of the foreground hills really works. Gives a good feel of winter. I actually like this shot. Don't you have a summer shot with Hood in the background from this same area?

Mark,

I really like this image a lot. Mark --the B & W is perfect. The over lapping patterns and layers oof the white snow and dark ridges make this even better. This is a great shot. Kudos Mark

Ya know, the thing that really grabs my eye are the matching multitudes of those trees in the bottom Left. Did you do any abstracts with just those trees ? That area interests me a lot.....

John hit my thoughts exactly. I am digging those trees and can imagine some really nice closeups. As for the overall scene, it's really awesome...but I'd like to see the sky a little darker.

That's it ! The background is too bright - not just the sky but that hill in the back. I couldn't figure out what was eating at me when I saw it and I think it's the BG. If that was darker, the FG would grab my attention more.

Thanks, guys,

so you want the far background muted, eh? I see your point, I can do that. and yes, I was up and down this road for a little while, I'm sure I did something with the foreground trees.

This is sweet Mark, I love the texture of the trees in the orchard. If it were mine I would consider burning the sky and BG hill a bit, but I think it's good as is too. Way to take lemons and make lemonade.

Mark, I really like the repetition of the foreground trees as well as the trees in the middle. Creates a nice pattern.

The layers are really working here. Good depth and exposure.

I like the "S" curve that the trees make in the middle. :toast:
