Little Egret
Taken this morning near to Starcross in Devon in early morning light lying on mud as low as I could possibly get. Would have preferred a bit lower but wasn't willing to dig!! (or allowed to I suspect!)

Cropped to 60% of image (maybe a bit tight up top?)

techs:
1d2, 500/4is + 2x, 1/640th, F14, ISO320, -0.67ev, resting on rock!C1,CS2

Thanks for any comments

Graeme

Nice one, I know these are a not as rare as they once were, but they are still very difficult to get close to and exposure can be a nightmare. The lovely lighting and alert pose are great but it is the fluffed up feather detail that makes this image stand out from other images of little egrets that I have seen. :toast: Were you the Warren or Exeter side of Starcross.

John, I was actually at Cockwood under the railway bridge next to a boat at a very low tide.

Thanks for the comments.

Send it up to yorkshire please, don't get many of these on the moors. Fine shot, do they normally hang around in winter?

Hi Graeme

Great light, super sharp, excellent detail in the whites. Might have been tempted to try a portrait composition (or maybe crop to it) so include a little more of the reflection.

Still a lovely shot as it is. Well done. :toast:

cheers

Yeah pretty sure they do hang around Tim. This actually flew off eye level within range and it was at that point I knew I cannot hand-hold a 500/4 with a 2x on and still hope to get any kind of shot :frown: Can anyone else or am I just a wimp lacking in technique as well?!!!?

Hi Graeme
great capture. I like the comp. and the lighting is nice also the detail in the plumage is great. The fluffed out feathers definitely make it a very good shot. :toast:

All been said, a very nice shot. The fluff really makes it :toast:
