Hello ALL :wavey:

Back in the summer of 2005.I was so lucky to discuver a family of Kestrels. But back then i only had a number of lenses(i think it was 3 at the time) to use.Which included the EF100-400 IS L, as i was just starting to get into taking "wildlife"(i've done alot of motorsport etc etc)i wanted some more reach, so i bought that lens.

I used the 100-400 for all my shots, which done me proud at the time  (i still use that lens for wildlife now and again  .Its a awesome lens..........when the sun is out).

The shot you see here was cropped about 50-60% of the shot.I've done my best to help it.

I was really hoping to photograph the family this year as i bought a Canon 500 prime. But i was gutted that they did'nt use the same nest site as the one back in 2005  :frown: .I had loads of plans of taking shots of the mother and farther raising the young ones DAMMIT.

20D
EF100-400 IS L

C & C welcome

Thanks for looking

Hi Alan you caught the Kestrel in nice relaxed pose, but I think the heavy crop still is too notable. It's my experience that young Kestrels stay close the nesting-area in the autumn and winter, and as they are more "tame" you might still be able to find som good photo-opportunities with them. :wavey:

You can never rely on birds, the thing to do I guess is to make the most of the situations when they arise. On my work monitor this looks a little over exposed, I think you need to shift the histogram left with your raw exposure compensation tool. Otherwise a pic I wish a had an equivalent to.
Nice one
