Moorhen
Taken at Slimbridge last month using EOS-1DmkII, 300/2.8LIS + 2xII, panned with gitzo at grd lvl, ISO 320 (had previously been photographing flight and forgot to change it) f/7.1 @ 1/1600, I particularlywanted to show the yellow legs so waited until the bird stepped out of the water before I took the shot

Hi Larry,

Really really nice, like it loads, the low angle and the light are just right, only nit and it is minor is the OOF highlights in the bg, (easy to deal with), other than that a superb image that is a pleasure to view.

Thanks alot Phil :toast: that has lifted my spirits already!!..been feeling a bit low recently

backgrounds are always a problem with low level photography at slimbridge usually its the gulls etc but in this case the oof highlights are where the sun is hitting wet gravel around the waters edge..

Nice study of a Moorhen - I like it very much and getting the perfect background is a problem I'm all to well aware of

Better than any moorhen shot I've taken.
In fairness we've only got one or two on a couple of thousand acres here.

If I get anything like this though I'll be very happy.

Lovely shot, I don't even mind the b/g, the subject is strong enough to hold attention.

Very nice Larry. Better than anything I have too by a long way. Don't mind the BG yself, but I can see why a purist would prefer a less distracting one. I'd be very pleased with this if it was mine regardless.

Good shooting!! :toast:

Hi Larry

Nice one - I like the low shooting angle and water colour. The BG is OK for me!

Hi Larry,

A fine shot with the raised leg adding an extra element of interest to the shot.
The out of focus highlights don't bother me at all.
Nice work.
