Rental Lights

It's been a while since I posted here, though I enjoy lurking.

I need info/help from folks in the broad Denver area.

We're shooting a wedding in Colorado Springs the first week of February, and would much rather rent lighting equipment than ship it there if possible. Is there an outlet that has lighting equipment for rent? We frequently rent from Glasers in Seattle, for example.

It's a large affair (20 in the wedding party!), so we'll need a fair bit of horsepower. Basically I'd like a minimum of 800 w/s for each of three lights and 1600 w/s would be better. Whether three 1600 w/s monos or a 4800 w/s pack and three lights makes no difference. If the latter, I may need an extension cord for one of the lights. I also need light stands and 30"-36" translucent umbrellas for each.

Thanks for any tips!

Hi Hank,

While I have never rented lighting of any sort, I have rented some MF bodies and lenses at Camren in Denver. I have had good experience with them. Not sure if you are looking for something in Colorado Springs to minimize transportation of the gear, or if you are flying directly into the Springs?

Good luck.

I'm not aware of a place in the Springs that rents lighting. Could be one, but I haven't stumbled across it. Like Michael, I've used Camren to rent some gear and had no problems with the equipment or the service.

Schewmakers(sp?) rents studio strobe lights in Colorado Springs. They have a 2 light and 3 light kit.

Hank,

I'll throw in another vote for Camren in Denver. I have rented three lenses to take on a cruise to AK, and they were very professional

Thanks

Excellent! You've saved my wife's nerve endings and my back. I'll check both sources, though we are flying into Denver and driving to Colorado Springs.

After all the help, I thought I'd report results for anyone else who might need rentals someday:

Shewmakers in the Springs only has a 4-light kit of Novatron 500 w/s lights available. Nice folks, but the ones I talked to didn't know much about the equipment and I had to talk them through it to even figure out they were 500 w/s lights rather than 100 watt, the designation on the modeling lights in each unit.

Camren has a much broader selection of gear, well described on their web site. The person I talked to in the rental department (David) was not only friendly and helpful, but knew his stuff. Hats off, because he made it very easy. Best yet, because it's a Saturday wedding and they're closed Sat-Sun, we can pick up the lights on Friday and return them by the same time on Monday and only be charged a one-day rental.

Anyone who can't justify buying big lights, but has occasional need or simply want to try some out, has quite a resource available in Camren. They remind me of Glasers in Seattle, and that's a good thing!
