Fall color, White Birch Forest
Here's one of very few images that I was able to capture during my short-lived trip to the U.P. in early October. Fall color came 7-10 days earlier than usual, and a major windstorm the night before I arrived meant that most of the subjects I'd planned to shoot were no longer photogenic. An exception was the White Birch Forest unit of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore; this area always turns later than others, and color was at peak during my brief visit.

I really like the mix of colors here, Danny. The contrast with the white birches is beautiful.

:wavey: Hi Danny, good to see a new image. I've been checking your website periodically for an update. Photography was tricky the last week of september in the Minnesota/superior region as well. Most days it rained (not a bad thing), and were very windy...I went to one particular spot 4 times for a shot that I wanted and things simply never panned out because of the wind. And yes, it tore many of the leaves down as well. What can you do though?

This particular stand looks very nice. The open section on the right counter-balances the maples on the left. Finding a pleasing arrangement is always a bit tricky to get "just right" and this works well. Anyhow, I hope your trip yielded some rewarding images, even if your preconcieved idea's didn't pan out.

Did your Fall in the Smokies workshop go well for you this year?

Dan,
Considering the lack of reds this fall this in some amazing image. If this was the only great image ( and I bet it wasn't) you came away with the fall color would have been a success for Danny Burk.

Wonderful.
