need some advice for my trip to peru

i am leaving in a few weeks to go to peru and i will be staying in a research station in the amazon basin.. what shoud i do to keep my equiptment in top shape and protected from the elements.. zip lock bags ect. i have ben to costa rica before but i used a film camera there and only had a few cheap lenses. now i am shooting digital and have 300 2.8. and since i just finished my ba degree it means alot to me becasue i have very limited funds and i cant afford to trash a lens that took me months to pay for. thanks for the advice
