I posted this on the digital imaging discussion forum but thought I'd put it here also. There is a Beta release of Photoshop CS3 that will be downloadable (is that a word) tomorrow. If you are a NAPP member, they've already got a lot of information on the new version there. The actual software will supposedly be released in Spring of 2007

BTW, it should be available at http://labs.adobe.com. A valid license of CS2 or certain other Adobe products is required if you want it to remain active for more than two days.

This is great news for mac users that already have CS2. Will CS3 be upgradable from CS2? 7.0? 6.0? Or, will I have to buy an entirely new version?? (when it comes out in the Spring).

Scott, in the past you have been able to upgrade from ANY previous full version of photoshop.
For the Beta release, Digital Outback states, "all owners of CS2 can use it until CS3 ships." So, I take that to mean the BETA will not work with older PS versions.
I don't care to waste mine time dealing with glitchy software, but Digital Outback claims they have been using it in their normal workflow without problems, so I'm looking forward to installing the Beta.

Scott, I sure hope they have sympathy and reward your suffering.
Adobe did offer cross-platform upgrades on their website, prior to CS2.
I think this is something for which you'll need to contact their customer service.
Most likely their new activation process has increased the complexity.

Scott,
I agree with Bill regarding the cross platform upgrade. I don't have personal experience but have a friend who switched from Windows to Mac. He got CS2 switched out for very few if any dollars from the Windows version to the Mac. I think if you contact their customer service, you might be pleasantly surprised.

This is a frustrating wait. Reading those reviews, I think I'm going to give the Camera Raw 4.0 a chance to redeem Adobe's RAW processing. I may actually *like* Adobe for this upgrade...
Now if they'd only post it...

Les, they already released it!! You just need to download the huge beta file, and then enter your CS2 serial #. The website will generate a new serial # for the CS3 beta. Both can be performed at:

46% downloaded already; caught the release notice elsewhere. It's not up on the main labs site yet, or wasn't when someone posted the notice.

Cool. By the way, Adobe only charged me shipping + tax (a total of $6.19) to "destroy" my windows version of CS2 so that they could send me a mac version. In the mean time, I can just use the 30 day trial until my new mac copy ships. All of my frustrations have been settled!

Very cool for you. No download for your Mac edition?
My download is complete. Now I get to sit and stare at it all day until I can install it on the PC that actually has CS2 installed

I just installed on my work machine (30-day trial edition). I have already revised my opinions on Adobe RAW upwards by a few dozen notches. I hope a brief tour through the rest of the features prompts me to drop Capture altogether! (I haven't paid for the NX upgrade, not sure I want to...)

There is a mac download. However, I needed to have a mac version after the 30 days are up.

I'm using it as we speak and I am very impressed.
