Black Grouse in the Rain
I took this shot back in April, it was a terrible morning but I made the most of the conditions. I like shooting in these kind of conditions because you can come up with something different, it also tells a story because one of the reasons black grouse are declining is because of the wet springs we are getting and this is effecting this beautiful grouse in its breeding success.

Canon EOS 1D MkII, 500mm Lens, F4, 1/8, ISO Rating 400.

Hi Danny,

You certainly did make the most of the conditions. Stunning image, the rain streaks make the image more dynamic in my opinion.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Danny,
Superb image. It has an almost 3d feel to it with the slightly OOF rain adding to this.
Only nit is the two green oof blobs on the left (trees?)

We've had a 500% increase on our estate with blackcock, going from a rare sighting of one bird over the last few years to five birds being seen regularly here on shoot days. Our springs have been dry but cold here for the last few years, this year was the first in a while that was wet, but nothing like as wet as the autumn/early winters we now seem to be getting regularly.
Another reason for the decline of these species is the reluctance of some organisations to do anything about a steadily increasing predator problem. I'd lay odds that you'll find increasing numbers of these birds on keepered land and a very marked decline on "wild" ground.

Wonderful image. One of the best I've seen of a blackcock in its environment. It would have been the best if I could have seen more of its feet IMHO.

A stunner, I too would have liked to have seen more of the feet, but appreciate that may not have been possible..

Lovely image that proves good images can be taken in any weather. (Just as well in this country) I too would have loved to see more of the feet. Probably would look slightly better without the two green blobs but not a major concern. I also wonder what the image would look like with slightly more detail in the bird.
