B&W Palouse Barn
D2x
f/11 @ 1/125 sec
70-200mm @ 70mm

I took this photo this spring when Rick and I were out in the Palouse. I like it but I didn't like the wires stretching all the way across the photo. I thought I might clone them out but it didn't seem worth it. I don't like the way the peak of the roof lines up exactly with the dip in the background field. I think I was at the top of a hill when I shot this and moving either left or right would have raised the peak into the dark area which I didn't want either.
Having just downloaded the new Photoshop along with the new ACR and Bridge, I've been playing with the new tools and features.

Mark,
The corners seem a little soft. Other than that I think it's a nice shot. Honestly I just try to imagine what was going on when this barn was actually being used.

Yea! A comment! oh, thank you, thank, you thank, you, Erik!

I added a bit of vingyetting to the corners. The print almost looks 3D actually.

Mark, I agree with the problems you mention in your post. Plus the image doesn't seem to have anything that really draws me in. A bit to static.

I think if you went a bit more dramatic with it on the edges and contrast, you could get more emotion out of this scene, but it's a bit too documentary as is, imo.

Mark,
The barn's contrast is perfect, but the rest of the scene is way flat. The sky could use a bit...OK, a bunch more drama. Curve or levels it up and this barn scene will look more like a wizard of oz scene, and something you should put on your site.
