Had the opportunity last week to spend a couple of nights at the new lodge on Mt. Magazine...what a nice place! A 3rd floor room with a balcony having a fantastic view, great weather, a meteor shower, and no crowds. Here is an early morning shot of a cedar near the more famous "logo" cedar below the lodge, which I'm calling "The Sentinel."

Dick, the light you've captured places the emphasis on your subject well. I like the comp and the character of your subject. Funny thing, do we all have an image we call "The Sentinel"?

That's a really interesting tree, Dick. The patterns and textures of weathered trees like this are always interesting. I find myself wishing that the sky had a little more color, though, and you might be able to tell the story of your tree a little better if you were to crop up from the bottom to eliminate most of the shadows in the foreground - they really don't hold a lot of information.
