Hello everyone, I often pop in here checking out the posts and work, I lived in CO for many years and now live in Missouri. Plan on making a trip after Xmas, and was hoping for a little info. Can anyone tell me how much snowfall is up at Maroon Bells Lake, and surrounding areas. Which roads may be closed, etc. I would really appreciate in help.

thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike, I can't tell you how much snow is at Maroon Lake, but you will not be able to drive up there because of the road closure. You can either snowshoe/Xski or snowmobile via T-Lazy 7 Ranch. You can still get up to Ashcroft throughout the winter. Robbie

You will need a snowmobile, or cross country skis to make it to the lake at this time of year. The closest you can get in a car/truck is about 10 miles. Currently Aspen Highlands Ski Resort which is the closest to Maroon Bells, about 12 miles, is reporting 35 inch mid-mt base with 5 inches of new snow. The road is closed from the first good snowfall of the season, usually around late Oct to early Nov, until the springtime temps. thaw it and the Forest Service feels like starting to maintain it again which occurs in early April to early May.
Snowmobiles can be rented at the ranch where the road is closed.

Thanks guys, much appreciate, gives me details before I leave. More than likely we'll be snowshoeing, but will have to check in on snowmobile. In the end we are looking at about 10-12 miles of snowshoeing which is nice to know, really appreciate the imput. All that snow will be great, now just need some nice lighting, :)

I doubt you'll see the lake unless wind blows it free of snow. It'll be an ice rink regardless.

Thanks Todd, not to worried about seeing the water, its the peaks I am wanting up there. I like the area there. It just depends on my friend, and if he is wanted to snowshow up into there or not. You guys are really getting snow this year, just keeps dumping out there. Which makes for some wonderful photography. Well see how things go over the next few days, I'll know for sure which area we are hitting. Thank you very much.
