I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, ADSL connection to the internet. When starting Internet Explorer is taking a long time before the small window for login and password pops up. I updated to IE 7 but this is not fixing the problem so can someone help me out here ?
Thanks

Jos, when IE works it's great (the vast majority of time for me). But when it breaks, it's a real pain to straighten out. You may want to consider downloading a different browser, like Netscape or Firefox. Since they're free, may as well try 'em all!
Thanks Jim, I will certainly try Firefox and see if the problem with the login window occurs here too.

For what it's worth, a recent NPR radio show interviewed a guy from Wired Magazine about the best things you can do to help your family fix their computer problems (when you visit them over the holiday).
#1 on the list was to teach them to use FireFox instead of IE.

Use Firefox, it's brilliant and with the extensions and skins you can get for it make it a pleasure to use.
A couple of nice extension are foxytunes, opens up your music player while your still in your browser at a click of a button, IE tab is another, this lets a page in Firefox display as a IE page, like Microsoft updater which will only work in IE, using this tab you trick the Microsoft Update page into thinking your using IE. Adblock is fantastic, does what it says.
It will ask you to install then restart Firefox and it will show down the bottom as a Firefox symbol left click changes it to IE and right click can make the web page always show as IE
Thanks to everyone ... I installed Firefox latest version and everything seems to work OK for now so I will keep using it and see if it stays this way. The only little nit is the spell checker, it shows when you type a mistake but it isn't proposing the correctly spelled word like IEspell but it will do for now.
Thanks again.

Just a couple of reasons Firefox is so good
