Just Rocks
On the shore at low tide, South Beach, Ecola State Park. I was intrigued by the contrasting patterns and textures and that the underlying base rock looked like logs. Let me know what you think.

I think you have rocks in your head lately
Actually, I love the patterny contrast like you state...but the dry-ness isn't my preference. Maybe you should have peed all over the rocks or something
I'm "all over" the comp though.

I like this comp. It has a range of contrasting shapes and lines that make the image very interesting, and it might be better wet as Rick suggested, but I'd wait for rain or the tide, or at least one other person to make sure the entire area got covered. Although, a wet look might hide some of the details that make the this interesting.

Interesting. I never even thought how it would look wet. Oh well, I'm sure the tide has long since displaced this particular arrangement.

Nice arrangement, color isn't benifiting this much... a contrasty B&W might be a little more appealing.

Just browsing through, seeing what you PNW guys are up to and this caught my interest.

I think it's a great composition and there are some nice, contrasting colors available here. I disagree with John about the color not being beneficial, rather, some interpritive printing work seems like a good solution. Tony K's midtone luminosity mask technique would work well in conjunction with a curve adjustment to breath a bit of life into the rendering. I did a quick edit doing just that and also a quick selective color adjustment and a touch of dodging and burning...just a couple min. total. How far you go, is certainly a matter of taste, but here's a link to the basic idea if you're interested (I have trouble direct linking jpegs for some reason, so you'll have to copy and paste...sorry): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/truckyj/Random/AdamusEdit.jpg?t=1166944087

Joel, you and I are working in the same direction with this one. Your edit furthers the look I was already going for since I started processing the image. I think it might be a bit too much for my taste in terms of saturation and contrast, but I'm probably somewhere in between the two.

Oh yeah, Joel, that's the ticket! I was finding the shot nice to look at but I felt it was a pretty average comp Popping the colors sure helps.

You might be surprised to know that saturation in the original image was increased 100% in PS. There was initially no color in the rocks to work with. I find the second image too saturated to retain a natural feel.

Wow! I wouldn't have thought that, Marc. I think this area would be fun to work a bit more, eh?

Definitely. I would like to explore some other comps. and also shoot it with wet rocks.
