I am curious about the posting statistics at NPN. I suppose it's none of my business, but I'm a numbers guy, for better or worse.

I second the suggestion. Merry Christmas!

Pete, which statistics are you looking for?

I don't formally track them, but they can be figured out pretty easily. For example, over the last 35 days (which is how long photos in the IC galleries persist for), we have averaged about 57 photos posted per day.

I meant generalities, like

How many images were posted over the year?
How many replies/comments were made?

Even simply considering what you shared above, wow, at the rate of 57 per day, we're talking thousands of images, and probably 4-5 times that many comments. Like I say, I was just wondering.

The "60 per day" average is pretty normal and has been for quite some time. By going to each IC gallery and looking at the number of posts you can get a feel for which ones have the most activity. Just bear in mind that all weekly picks remain in those numbers too (extending far beyond the past 35 days).

Pete, I have done some "research" The Avian Gallery ends at page 16 for the 2006 year. Assuming that all 16 pages will be filled at 32 images per page, that is 512 of our feathered friends :wavey: More if there are group shots. The Fauna Gallery for 2006 ends only at page 4 which results in 128 images. Why do you suppose NPN'ers prefer photographing birds rather than animals? Are animals more of a challenge? For the Editor's Picks there are 8 Galleries and 52 weeks in the year.

As to finding an accurate count of comments given, that is a more time consuming research. And then there are the number of page views.

Will, the Avian Gallery ends on page 15 just for the past 35 days posts. Everything beyond that is either a holdover from Editor's Picks and Staff Gallery, or gone from the server. It is similar in all galleries.

I think there is a flaw in my "research". :frown: The avian pages show only those who are still within the time limit. So any post from October etc. is no longer there and the list of pages should be far longer than it shows.

However, 15 pages for November and December, if that is consistent for the entire year, that would make a list of 90 pages and means a whopping 2880 avain posts.

Yeah, it gets kind of busy in the old Avian Gallery. And November/December have been a bit slow with the holidays and all...
