Still trying to figure out how to photograph this funky place.

This time with the D200 and 10.5mm fisheye, ISO 100, F/5.6;1/8 sec + F/8;1/10 sec.

This is one of the better comps I've seen of this hard to photograph waterfall. I like the fisheye effect and the wraping around of the walkway that leads to the falls.

I went up there today after seeing this and I have to say....this is NICE......that place sucks for taking pictures and I can only imagine the mess it would be if there were a bunch of people on the walk way!!

Well done!!!! and the color is spot on!

Nice one Swami! This gives me ideas for other spots in the Gorge now that I have true 17 mm reach (yours with CF would be 15-16mm???). Anyways, it's a nice view, it gives you a good sense of space.

Have you used this for train pics???

Check out the underside of the bridge, with views of the fields behind it through the Gothic arches & all.

My advice, go back in the late spring, early summer when all the trees are green and full. I've never had any luck with this falls in Winter. Ned is the master of this falls though. Check his website for some interesting shots.

I agree with trying a different season, same shot. I'd favor early Spring when the trees are just beginning to show new leaves. Then you'll have some delicate color where the bare stuff is and not so much as to obscure the view you have.

Kevin: yes, this is with a "DX" Nikon camera so 10.5 mm means 15.75mm for 35mm. It's a fisheye, so it gives a significantly different perpsective from a normal wide angle. I have used it with trains, but usually there I tend to straighten out the fishiness in photoshop, like here: http://www.pbase.com/swami/image/65410348/original.

I agree with the suggestions to try this again in the spring. Still, I like the winter sparseness too. Thanks for the comments.

Take a look at Ron Niebrugge's site here:

Under the Oregon Gallery, sub-gallery Columbia River Gorge he has two interesting wide angle shots of the falls with bridge.
