I thought it would be a good idea to start 2007 off right by shooting on the first day of the year. I couldn't do it first thing this morning and had to wait until after the Razorback game before I could go this afternoon. So, with all of that, it was pretty late before I could head out.

I made it down near the Cedar Glades picnic area, close to Erbie on the Buffalo River. I wondered around a bit photographing some stuff with the rising moon, then some neat stuff in the sand along the river bank. As I walked back out via a small side drainage, I found this little waterfall (about 8 1/2 or 9 feet tall). This was taken after the sun had set, in the last fading light of the first day of the year.

I also found a cool subject to photograph for the new contest we are running from the site where viewers try to figure out where an image was taken, or in some cases, what the subject is. That's on the homepage at www.glennwheeler.com.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!! :toast:

Glenn - what an agonizing game to watch! I guess you're wishing you had gone out shooting instead.

Looks like a neat little waterfall you found. The overall color seems a little flat, but that could be my monitor. I also think the composition might have been improved with something in the fg to draw me into the scene...that space just seems a little empty.

Did you happen to go on down to Liles Falls? I wanted to make it over there Sunday, but ran out of daylight. That whole area has some pretty cool stuff to see.

Nice waterfall, Glen. I can only echo Bill's comments about color and foreground. I wonder if there's a nice b&w lurking in there somewhere. Thanks for posting!

Man I wish I could just slip out late in the afternoon and find stuff like this to shoot. :frown: I did a google search on waterfalls in Kansas and only found 4! That's crazy, but hey, Kansas isn't flat .....

I like Tim's suggestion on going to B/W with this and then also bumping the contrast. It looks to have a lot of potential in that presentation. Thanks for posting! :wavey:
