Finally with a break in the weather I had a chance to get out and take some shots. I just posted some here: http://imageevent.com/dereksurfs/winter20062007
The snow was *deep* everywhere and I wasn't wearing snow shoes. But it was beautiful and worth having cold feet for most of the time.
We also saw Tony Bouchard on his way back from Dream Lake. I am sure he got some nice shots up there. Next time I am bringing snow shoes and doing some more exploring.
One of my favorite shots I took was actually out of a truck window while my friend John Klotz was driving. We were late getting home so there was no time to stop. But what a killer spot after the snow. The shot itself has some motion blur. But you can see the possiblities: http://photos.imageevent.com/dereksurfs/winter20062007/huge/31Dec06_6384D.jpg
This spot is located right off the 36 between Estes Park and Lyons where a the road becomes one lane due to road construction.
I would love to see anyone elses shots after the storm.

Yep, that looks like a sweet location (especially at sunrise/set)! I share your road frustration--I saw some great ops driving to Lamar yesterday, but wasn't about to stop in the middle of snow-packed route 50 to get out and set up my tripod!

Derek,
Good to meet you up there. I'm still waiting to get my film back. My lab was closed the week of Christmas so I've got about 30 sheets of 4x5 waiting to be developed. I'll have a best of the storm post if anything turns out well.
I see from your shots that the sun does hit the diamond a little bit this time of year. Looks like you were close to the spot you wanted by the pond on RTE 7.

Tony,
I look forward to seeing your shots of Dream Lake once you get them back. I am surprised you where carrying a 4x5 in that backpack. It looked more compact than that.
You have inspired me to get up there this winter
Thanks for the tips.

Nice shooting, Derek - I really like the second GotG shot.

Here's my Dream Lake shot. Nothing too exciting, but the southerly angle of the sun does let you get a nice blue sky over the mountains. I decided not to clone out the photographer in the middle of the lake.

Wow Tony,
Nice shot. I have never seen a photo of Dream Lake with snow that deep! It looks like snow shoes were a must.
I wonder if we had received some cool morning clouds if that would have been reflected in the snow?
