Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo
Taken just before Christmas at the Country Park where I work. The reflections in the water are from the autumn colours in the trees on the other side of the lake.
Looks a very nice image to me. Like the BG very much and bird nice and sharp.
My screen is not calibrated but I wonder if it would benefit from just a little more contrast?
Interested what others think?
Cheers

Hi Pete
Super image, love the BG colours in the water and great detail and exposure on the bird. For me maybe the bird is a tad low in the frame but that is a minor thing!
I agree with A.R.D (A name would be nice?) that it could do with a boost in contrast, looks just a tad flat on this screen (calibrated)
Having said that, I think it's a cracker of a shot of a bird that will seldom sit still long enough for me to get a shot of. Plenty of detail and a peacefull setting too.
Hi Pete, a wonderful shot with plenty of sharpness/details. The colours are great, and for me contrast is about right.

Lovely shot with nice sharpness and background.
I'd go along with David in that it is that it is possibly a little low in the frame - and it does look a little flat on my (calibrarted) monitor too - did you use Shadows/Highlight as a matter of interest as I find that this tends to lower the contrast somewhat.

Nice image Pete,
Composition is spot on for me, but I think it could benefit from a touch more contrast, and maybe saturation.
Contrast looks fine to me; I think the soft lighting and pastel colours in the water make the shot. Too much contrast would spoil the gentle mood, IMO.
Thanks for the kind words - it's amazing what a lift positive comments can give you on a dull Tuesday morning!
Dennis - the contrast was set in Rawshooter Essentials, then PS work was simply sharpening and cropping. I have noticed though, that images that look right in Rawshooter sometimes look a bit flat when converted and opened as a tiff in photoshop. hth
Difficult shooting circumstances, so you've done well to come away with an image as good as this one. Probably not an option in this case, but a little fill flash here would have really given the subject a lift, improved the definition and edge detail. Something to think about anyway.

Awesome shot Pete, the warm bg colours are outstanding, a real compliment to the Cormorant
