I haven't been out shooting much this Christmas, due to terrible weather. But when an Ivory Gull visited a Danish harbour last week I had to go there. (Together with 200+ birdwatchers, I saw this magnificient adult bird, which is the first of this high-arctic specie in Denmark since 1983). Most photos where against a dull grey sky, but at last the bird landed to get some fish-guts.

Hi Helge
You have kept a lot of detail in the whites, even at this size, which I normally find very tricky to do.
I'm not too sure about the setting here. The guts don't bother me, but the setting they're in is just a touch drab and could be anywhere from a supermarket carpark to a dirty sandy beach.
Any idea why the bird is with you instead of much further North?

I guess you can't be choosy as to the location - when you get the opportunity to photograph one of these beautiful birds you take it! Nicely exposed and a good behavioural shot too I guess.

Lots of detail in the feathers, spot on exposure.

Blimey, you need a lot of guts to take this photo Great bird can't say much for the side dish Hey did some fella get in the way of your shot
John - no clue to why it came down here. It stayed for 2-3 days and then disappeared. I believe there was one in Norway too in December, and one in Scotland yesterday!
