Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to announce my first big gallery show, at the Skol Studio in Ouray.
I'm showing about 30 prints, including 10 large format shots from 2006.
The opening night is this Friday the 5th, starting at 5pm. If you're in the area feel free to stop by and party with us! The prints will be up through April too though. You can see which prints I'm showing here.
Skol Gallery, 812 Main St., Ouray
This photo here is in fact not in the show, but it's a fairly recent shot from along the Uncompahgre River in Ridgway on a bitterly cold bluebird morning right after a fresh snow. This light fog was covering much of the valley between Ridgway and Ouray; it was emanating from the river, and especially from the nearby hot springs. Tachihara 4x5, 120mm, provia 100F

That's awesome Jack! Quite an honor. Wish I could come down but I've got school. Let us know how it goes. Hope you sell lots. Also, that's a really interesting picture you posted. I'm surprised you were able to keep the exposure under control.

Thanks Scott! I am excited for the opening. As for this shot, I managed to position the sun mostly behind the tree trunk which helped the hotspot a bit; also I brightened up the whole image quite a bit in photoshop, especially the darker bottom. In the original slide the sky is darker blue.
Super shot, love the rays of light ! Congrats on the show and best of luck, hope you sell a bunch!

Great news Jack and congrats. You've got a great collection of images for the show and I hope you get lots of interest and sales.
I love your shot above, too. The sunbeams are killer and you did great balancing the light and for a very natural look!!

Jack - beautiful shot, and congratulations on the show.... I'll definitely try to make it out there before the show ends. Sorry I can't be there Friday but best of luck on opening night!
That reminds me of something I recently learned from a very successful fine art photographer.... at the opening, it's important that the artist and the gallery owner/manager play their respective roles.... it's the artist's job to talk about the art, be friendly and interesting etc. and it is the gallery rep's responsibility to make sales! Hopefully you can avoid the (internal) pressure to put on your salesman's hat on opening night. Patrons will expect to talk business with the gallery personnel.
I know a lot of artists (in all mediums) get uptight about this on opening night, because it's the main situation where the artist is engaging the collectors. I don't know about the replationship you have with the gallery personnel but I hope that they will take good care of the business side of things for you... especially on opening night. If they do their job, and you do yours, opening night can produce the most sales of any time throughout the exhibit. It might be worthwhile to have a conversation with them about this ahead of time.
Jack, that image above is just plain incredible!!! What a morning!!!
I won't be making it to the opening, but like Darren, am planning on being down that way mid February, so will definitely be checking it out!!! Good luck Friday, and have a blast!!!

I probably won't be down that way in the next few months, but have to say that the photos you'll be exhibitting look like they are really a nice collection of scenes. Best of luck.

Jack, this shot is very similar to one I'm envisioning taking along the Yampa here. Haven't been able to yet but I hope I can at least come close to this one.
I won't see you Friday but I'll sure try to make it that way before the end of April.
Very cool! Outstanding set of photos!

Thanks everyone for your comments and support.
Nat - thanks for the tips. I am happy that the gallery owners will be handling the sales, since I seem to have misplaced my salesman hat somewhere long ago! Hahaha....

Congrats on the show, Jack. Hopefully I can make it down there - I'd love to see some of those printed large. That pic above is magical- such a simple subject, but with incredible impact.
Great image, and congrats on the gallery show. Wish I could make it over to Ouray. Was planning to be there in September, but traded that trip for Christmas with the folks. Great looking web site, too.
