Please someone tell me they captured this morning's excellent Alpenglow/Moonglow on the Divide and Front Range...

I was driving to work sans camera or time, and it was spectacular.

Les, I was gonna post this same thing!! Oh man, I was going nuts!!! Just the glow on the snow all around me was spectacular, then I saw the light hitting her peaks, and about crashed my car!! I sure hope someone got some images!!!

I snuck over to the GOGs before work hoping to catch the full moonset over the Garden. But the low clouds covered it up. However the sunrise lit the clouds up really nice. So it was definately worth waking up a little earlier just to watch.

I wasn't in the best place compositionally waiting for the moon to show up. But hopefully I got a decent shot or two in the process.

Jody, where's the alpenglow? Did you have the white balance set wrong?

I was on top of Berthoud pass last night as the moon rose over the mountain range to the east in a spectacular pink glow from the sunset -- without a camera! BAHG!

I hate it when that happens

I gotta get me one of them cameras, Jody! Does it always produce such spectacular shots?

Darn I didn't get the Alpinglow out near Divide but I did go to the Garden. My first shot of 2007! :jump:

James,

Great color and composition!! It looks like you were where I wanted to be if I had more time before work to walk around.

Great shots James. I especially like the second. It looks like you got a great start to your GOG shots for the year.

Hey Jody where's the teapot? I think the moon in your photo was actually a double exposure. Admit it.

James, if that is your first shot of 2007, I think you'll have a very good year! Wow.

Jody.... LOL.

I tell you with my change in schedules I have been chomping at the bitt just to go out for a short hike. Like Derek I was heading out to try and catch the Moonset. I arrived at the Garden at 6:25am and the moon was nice, then just as it got light enough to start setting up a good shot, it slipped behind the clouds. Oh well as Derek said the Sun came out and put on one helluva light show! I'm still working through about 200 other frames I shot as I bracketed the heck out of each composition. I wanted to be in three other locations at the same time as i wanted a Balanced rock shot, the Twins and maybe the Toad Stools.

Derek I saw you drive by down below as I waited for the light to hit. I know you had to stop and get something.... I saw maybe 4 other shooters out there and one I know from Georgia who was just a bit late. If it's any consulation... I did Moon the Persian Lumberjack as he treaded on the trail below!

James,

Looks like you captured a nice moment there at GotG.

If you're looking for critiques, your first shot is the keeper of the bunch in my opinion. The second is over-sharpen/over-processed and looks really unnatural to me on my monitor. Just scrolling the page a couple inches up and down allows a quick comparison between the first and second - which really demonstrates this. Additionally I think the white balance on the first image is more realistic (using the snow on the east face of the peak as my reference point). The third shot has some great clouds in it, but appears to have too strong of a yellow tint on my monitor... It's also a bit dark, but it appears the dynamic range in that shot is difficult to manage (some snow highlights on the peak appear very close to blown-out already with this exposure setting)

1st is best! :toast:

I was kicking myself at work; first day back after 2 weeks off and I felt compelled to get in early and dig through the e-mail. Normally, I'd have the LF and digital in the truck for full moonset.

That first one rocks, James. The third one suffers from the same color issues as some of your other recent posts. What did you do different between the two?
