The RMNP theme for the month of January is Colorado Plateau. Images can be of anything (nature related) from the Colorado Plateau, and they need not be recent.

Thanks to Nat Coalson for suggesting this month's theme!

I have almost too many images to choose from here. I'll go with one of Balanced Rock this past fall that I've yet to post anywhere. It's not the greatest shot, but it's one of the few you'll see of a reflection of Balanced Rock. I took this right after the really heavy rains around Moab.

I have the same "problem" as Grant  but I guess you can never go wrong with a classic.

That is a great photo Grant. I haven't seen anything like it for sure. It isn't often that there is so much water in Arches near the balanced rock.
Also a great Bryce shot from Guy!
Continuing with another Utah National Park: here is my contribution taken at last light from Sunset Point on Easter Sunday last year in Capitol Reef.

Muley Point from a road trip last winter.

Beautiful shots everyone. An unusual capture of balanced rock Grant. I have quite a few of the "usual" shots". I decided to pick more of an abstract of the terrain while overlooking Canyonlands. A thunderstorm was passing over the area and the patterned light on the canyon floor caught my eye.

Great images people! Here's my contribution from a recent trip to Colorado National Monument, before the snows hit.

Sweet color from Muley Pt, Jody. Looks like a sunrise, right? I enjoyed a post thunderstorm sunset there many years ago and will never forget the experience.

Jesse, that's some amazing dynamic range. Great capture.

Great photos so far, everyone.

Mesa Arch on a cold, cloudy winter day.

Some great stuff already, so I thought I would post something a little different. This a "light painting" of a sandstone rabbit at Goblin Valley SP.

Cool rendering Don. It reminds me of one of the prehistoric Venus figures found in caves...only a less rotund version

I always kind of liked this one but have never printed it.

Here's one from the frozen Colorado, taken last winter.

Here's one from a while back taken at Sunrise Point. I believe that's the "Queen" in the upper left.

Adam, great Cedar Mesa shot with the warm light and snow hightlights!!

We stayed at Lake Powell on the way back from Lost Wages after Christmas. Captured these hoodoos with the Ebony.

Hi,
I'm Scott, I just became a member and this is my first post, a photo from Deadhorse Point.

That's a great first post! Welcome to RMNP. :wavey:

Welcome Scott Fricke!. It was good to meet you in Moab. To Scott Bacon: I apologize for inviting yet another Scott. However, since Scott Buckel is gone, I figured we should replace him with another Scott. Besides, he's a Scott F, not a Scott B.
Posted by Brent Doerzman on January 21, 2007 at 10:02 PM
Scott Fricke, welcome!!! It's about damn time!!!   I've only been after you for what, two years? HA! Glad to see you here man!

Even though he's adding to the long list of Scott's around here folks, he's a good guy, and believe me, has one heck of an eye!! Really looking forward to more posts! If we ask him nicely, maybe he'll post some of his incredible Iceland pics!!

Let's see some more pics! I thought this would have been a popular theme. :jump:

Factory Butte, clearing storm.

Nice photo of Factory Butte! Can't wait to go back to Utah.
Posted by Scott Fricke on January 23, 2007 at 11:44 PM
Great photo Adam, I like the bands of light, especially the hint of red at the top.
Posted by Rene Pirolt on January 24, 2007 at 6:23 PM
Great shoots everyone. The Factory Butte is sweet, Adam!

Here is my contribution. I have posted the original color version of this before, but I wasn’t quite happy with it. I converted the shot to B&W and to me it looks a lot better.

Moon over Wooden Shoe Arch

Awesome shot Rene. Its got everything I love about that area. Great foreground, clouds with the storm in the backround, and the big sky!
Posted by Scott Bacon on January 25, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Welcome to, ah yes, another Scott!
Posted by Scott Fricke on January 25, 2007 at 4:42 PM
Thank you all for the welcome. Since Adam asked for more pics and the Colorado Plateau is my favorite roadtrip destination I thought I would send in another. My brother and I went down to try to get into the Wave and with 15 people at the ranger station in a lottery for 12 spots, we of course were 2 of the 3 that didn't get in, so we went to South Coyote Buttes instead and that is where this is from. No color adjustments.

Love the b&w and factory butte shots. Here's another shot of Balanced Rock ... I took this one yesterday. It's four images stiched together.

Man, I haven't checked this thread out in a while since I've been traveling a lot. D*mn. Outstanding work all around. Great b&w work, René. Adam - that shot of Factory Butte is sa-weet.

I think I have only one shot from the Colorado Plateau - pretty sad. This work will inspire me to get out there. Hopefully making a trip out to the San Rafael Swell in Feb, and maybe Hanksville in March.
Posted by Bret Edge on January 31, 2007 at 1:56 PM
I'll add another to the mix. Mesa Arch in afternoon light with snow on the ground and beautiful clouds in the sky.

Looking at all the photos that have been posted certainly proves that massive talent exists among this group!

I have been meaning to post, but kept getting side tracked. These are all great shots, and I am dying because I can't wait to get back to the desert! Here is one from the middle of nowhere! (between Factory Butte and San Rafael Swell) Taken with my old Crown Graphic back in my youth (2002!)
