Either I'm hitting the sauce a little too hard, or I just saw the most spectacular meteor slowly cruising across the front range, heading south. It was ENORMOUS.
From my house in Arvada, it appeared about 5-10 degrees above the flatirons and easily had a trail as long as any one of the major flatiron formations. I watched it for about 20-30 seconds from the front porch, then had time to go upstairs and watch it for another 10-15 seconds from the back of the house. When I finally lost sight of it, it was still fairly bright with dozens of very bright spots/fragments, and a long trail.
I really hope that someone was out preparing for shooting moonset and got a picture of it!

News 7 has video of it but it doesn't do it justice. It was MUCH more spectacular, bright and dense at first. Looked a like a giant rocket coming apart. Might need to borrow the Doerzman 7000 from Jody to post a pic of it.

Wow. There was another one of these above CO several weeks ago. Unfortunately, I missed both!
Sadly, I missed it, but was listening to KBCO this AM, and tons of folks called in to say they had seen it. !! That video is pretty impressive, I can only imagine what it was like to see it in person!!!
Scott, I caught the one a few weeks ago... It was pretty spectacular.
I cringed when I saw that video though... I was fully expecting to come into work this morning only to recieve the very bad news of something rather expensive de-orbiting.

Holy cow, that was amazing! Beats the UFO sighting we had here in Moab a few weeks ago.

Rick,
Channel 9 News just had a short story on your hallucination.
NORAD claims you were seeing an old Russian SL4 rocket that was breaking apart on re-entry. At least one piece hit the ground and was recovered near Riverton, Wyoming.
The news video was impressive !

Here is a write up on the Rocky Mountain News' web site. It was a Russian rocket.
