Old Highway
Nikon 5400

Yesterday, Peggy went for a run on the Old Highway east of Hood River. Ellen, Ozzy and I went anong. Peggy ran off, Ellen and Ozzy followed, so I was all alone having a nice quiet walk. I walked around a curve and saw this scene. it felt like it had some emotion so I snapped it off. Today I played with it a bit and sorta like it.

Wow Mark, 29 "Views" of this but no "Replies" yet? I'll step up and say I'd rather be having a quiet walk around that curve than where I am now  . I like the lines and composition, and location potential, but IMHO it's not jumping out at me like your other postings. Maybe remember the spot for another time?

Mark,

Looks like a nice spot for a stroll.

I like the curve in the road and the little fringe of green on the road.

The fence is an obvious element, but I't not sure how it plays in. Maybe it's something I'm just not seeing, can you spell it out for me a little more (either with photoshop or in prose)?

It seems a little dark and flat. Given what I've seen you do in PhotoShop, I'm sure this must be intentional, but I'm not sure where you were going with this. (Again, maybe it's me not seeing what you intended.)

Hi Mark, I like the composition but think it would be more effective in different light.

Sean and Sean (wow, that's weird),
I'm trying to sometimes let my photography flow. I'm trying not to dissect it too much. This shot was taken with a point and shoot handheld, of course. The camera is set to Auto and I just generally frame the scene and fire away. I walked around the corner, saw the scene, fired away and kept walking. I liked the scene, the road curving off left and then right, I liked the light, the kind of light we get here so often in Hood River in the winter.
It's sort of a "scene of life" shot. I don't want it to be beatific, I want it to be sort of dark and crusty. I want you to wonder "What the hell..."?

There's definitely a surreal emotion in this picture. Not sure why but I'm liking this a lot Mark

Thanks, Pradeep, that's exactly what I want to hear.

Got it. Right on Mark!

Mark, I think you're going to confuse the crowds here if you keep intentionally posting pictures that aren't up to the NPN standard of flashiness.

I for one think the endless attempts at flashiness are boring and repetitive given the huge variety of potential nature related photography. I like variety away from the "NPN standard" of overly romanticized/idealized nature that gets so much praise around here. I like what you are trying here for that reason.

attractive photos are attractive photos. It is "sweet" to see special moments. It is "nice" to see nature scenes we see everyday...well, because we all love nature here...otherwise we'd be shooting portraits all the time. I like that we can use this forum to post the average images, or the ones that grabs just us.

Although I can appreciate your effort/experience on this road, I see no other use for this except sharing memories. You will not sell this as art, and it's a stretch to say that you'd sell this as advertising.

I kinda think you are trying a bit hard to see things differently than they are trending. Perhaps I will be in this place in 6 months or so. I never want my art to become stagnant...
