I have eventually got round to rewriting some of my web site after 2 1/2 years  I have put up a couple of the pages and wonder what they look like on other systems. Particularly intersted in how the images on the second page look. Are they large enough etc. Do not want to get too far into it if it does not look good.

Also intersted to know what information people would like to know regarding images on the site.

As this is only one page from the site not all the links work

Thanks in advance

Images all look fine. You might want to check out the layout/flow elements for the text as parts of it display above or to the side of the image in Safari/Firefox. I haven't checked it in IE, I'm sure others will

Nick have made a change in the HTML which I hope fixes this. You can tell I have not done any of this for some time.

Many thanks

Hi John,

Had a quick look - main things I thought were that on 1024x768 IE the title & link buttons take up a lot of space at the top so that the image only shows about 50% - IMO I would prefer the dominant part of any image based website to be the image.

I re-did my site not long ago and after many many years of doing sites professionally & personally realised I wanted a really pared down look - no frills, just purely the images as the most dominant feature - not sure if this is something you agree with but perhaps food for thought? navigation should be intuitive & unobtrusive where possible...

Anyway, image looks good and certainly big enough for me - enough info as well - i've stuck loads of info on my images (eg lens etc) simply because it was easy as they are all in a database so it was simply a bit more text to add.

Let me know if you want a hand/advice with anything with it - for my sins I have been doing this for far too looooong...

cheers

Mark

Thanks for the feedback.

Have changed the res of my second machine to your parameters and can see what you mean.

I have been doing the layout at 1280x 1024 on a 21 inch so this layout shows well with those parameters. Do you know what is the size and resolution of the average setup today.

Was thinking of adding any extra info to the ALT tag so it takes up no extra space on the page.

average res may well be 1024/768 nowadays - always used to design for 800x600 but I'd imagine the sort of people you want looking at your site (editors, clients etc) would have at least 1024x768 and may well have more...

Some good advice from Mark there!

I had a quick look and it looks ok except there appears to be a lot of wasted space at the top of the page and as a result there is a scroll bar to see the full content on a 1280x1024 res. I'd shift it all up to the very top (unless there is a logo or something that will be up there, in whch case try to make it a bit smaller so there is no scrolling).

:)

Mark and Richard

Thanks for the feedback have now had a look at the top end of the page and have reduced the size of the link buttons and lost a lot of the spare space. Any better?

:toast: much much better for me although the buttons weren't centered on my display - had a quick look and the td was set to align left. Looks much cleaner and makes the image more dominant. From a design perspective I would personally drop the font size for the botom text or make the logo more prominent as they both seem to carry the same visual weight on the page...just an opinion as I know design is a very personal thing.

Had another look and there is stilla big gap. I viewed your source code and right near the top you have 3 line break entries in a row, take out 2 of them and the problem should be sorted :)

Much better :)

Now the page fits just fine although you do still have a scroll bar. I'd try either making sure your page border values are all set at 0 or just remove the final line break (there is still space above it at the moment so removing the final one wont put all the text at the very top of the page).

May as well get ride of the scroll bar if you can as it wil look odd having it if the content fits ok, which it does

Richard

Have reset the page height to 90% not 100 should have got rid of the scroll bar, I hope.

Thanks

Looks good to me - wont get rid of the scroll bar on 1024x768 but not a lot you can do about this (600 pixel height image causes it but I wouldn't go any smaller than this) so I'd say its all looking tickety boo!
