Guess the location
OK, lets see how sharp you long-time residents are! What is the location of this shot? I took it saturday eve. Winner gets a semi-used piece of lens cloth (about all i can afford) and my profound respect.

Well, this one's a bit too easy. It's clearly the Maroon Bells .

Actually, it looks like western Colorado, but it seems too small to be any of the major rivers. So I'll guess it's a tributary of the Gunnison, between Delta and Grand Junction. If I need a more precise guess to win your profound respect, I'll say it's the Escalante just off Hwy. 50???

Yes, it is in fact the Bells after a particularly fierce wind-storm
Nah, but you were close, in a way
this is too diabolical to give out real hints just yet, would like to hear from a couple more people first.

I can think of several small rivers that look like this in some spots, including the Fremont, Muddy Creek, the San Rafael River etc. but if I understand from your description this is supposed to be in CO so I'll guess the Animas.

Nice shot, Stan. I'm going to guess the Animas, just outside of Durango.

Along the route to Durango was going to me my guess as well. In that region of space, and I have only been here 2 years so I should get a booby prize at least if I am close.

Austin Bluff just off Union Blvd in Co Springs!

Wow, this could be one of a gajillion places in western CO or UT. It could be a side channel off the Colorado somewhere near Grand Junction to UT. Or maybe the Smith Fork near Crawford?... Maybe the...How many guesses do we get?

Or the Republican near Wray!

Well, since no one is even close, here's the big hint: Todd oughta know this one!

Quoting Seinfeld: "Dolores?"

Guy: Nope, no rhyming involved. but since it took me and Google all of 2 minutes to figure out your Seinfeld reference, should take 30 seconds to figure out my TC reference!

With all of the hints and eliminations, I might guess the Arkansas River between Pueblo and Canon City. Something doesn't quite match with the water channel characteristics, but the sanstone bluff would fit into that area.

Bingo! It's the Arkansas in Pueblo, just west of Pueblo Blvd off rt 96, or about 1/2 mile west of the nature center. The water may have puzzled people since the land on the far side is actually an island (the river is braided). I had to do a bit of maneuvering to avoid having to photoshop out telephone poles (that would be cheating). But, pretty surprising what you can find in your own backyard! A :toast: to Roger (and the rest of you who played along with my silliness).

Congrats, Stan. I think you managed to take a picture in the single stretch of the Arkansas I didn't see this year! Gonna have to remedy that somehow, but I'm kind of recovering from SE Colorado right now...

Nice shot, and good work ditching the ever-prominent utility lines in the Pueblo area along the Arkansas.
