Had a bit of a clearout to make some disk space and came across this image that I had passed over before.

Canon 1 DsII, 500 F4.5, 1.4 tc, mounted on AS1, Sidekick, G1348 plus fill-in flash HS mode @ -1 2/3, iso400, 1/2000 at F8

crop about 40% to remove pointless plain background and resized

Hi Mike

I like it, especially the out of focus bird in the background, it really makes the shot for me and raises it above just another straightforward bird portrait. Fill flash is not obvious and you have a nice catchlight. A decent image to find lying around on your hard disc, and with the 1Dsmk2 there are plenty of pixels for cropping, even at 40%.

cheers

Hello Mike
I like it too, and agree with Sean's comments. I do find the overall image just a bit too pink, but that's just a minor nit.
Best wishes

Its amazing what you find lerking around hey...for me this image really works and is made by the addition of the out of focus bird.

Hi Mike,

Personally, I love the first bird and the level of detail in the plumage is lovely. I do however find the OOF bird a little distracting, but I guess that is a personal thing.

Regards Chris.

had another go at the colour balance, I'm not sure the monitor was up to the stable temperature last time I reprofiled it

Nice repost is better re colour, I might be tempted to crop just a tad from the top just to get rid of the couple of dark blobs up there and maybe tone down the OOF light stones in the bg. Like the OOF bird as well really makes the image for me.

Hi Mike

Very minor nits covered I think this is a superb image and I also like the inclusion of the OOF bird.
