One of my favourite birds but hard to get, specially with those low shutterspeeds. I am very happy with this one. Hope you like it.

Wow, very impressive shot to get with a 340mm lens. The only (very tiny) issue I can see is that the highlight in the eye is a little too bright- maybe a little less sharpening and contrast in the eye would resolve this.
Other than that, it is a perfect shot of this species. I've only seen them high in the canopy in pine woodland in Scotland.
Where did you take this shot? I guess you used a hide?

Thanks Ben,
Yes I did use a hide. They are very shy and easy to scare off. This one was taken in a very large woodland called the Veluwe. This area is 12.000 acres big. To find a decent place to set up your hide and feeding station is not easy but this time a got lucky.

Hi Edwin,
Very very nice
no nits - perhaps tail blur but doesn't detract too much for me
Hello Edwin
Excellent capture of a rare species.
Best wishes

Hi Ed
A lovely pose and with great detail too (although yes, maybe a tad over sharpened but looks fine on my CRT monitor). Good colours and the eye is excellent. Very good results for a zoom with a 1.7x TC.
cheers

Very nice shot Edwin, stuff like this is hard to get with a 200/1.7TC combo, I've been trying for ages!

Great image!
Too much sharpening though. Halo is very evident around beak and forehead.
