I am going to be traveling sometime between june and august and I was wondering which of these destinations sounded the most promising from a nature photography stand point- Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica or Palau in Micronesia or Bako National Park in Borneo or going BACK to Kakadu National Park in Australia...only with a better camera this time. Which would you choose? Or do you have any other suggestions? I prefer the tropics and abundant reptile life....any and all suggestions welcome. :wavey:

Brandon,

If you are going to Bako, Komodo island would be another obvious destination that is close by and would satisfy the 'abundant reptile life' criteria.

If reptiles are more important than scenery, The Galapagos in Ecuador followed by a trip to Tena or the Napo river area in the Amazon would be a great choice.

If scenery is more important than reptiles, you could consider a trip to Venezuela incorporating Canaima National Park and Angel falls, then cruise down to Los Llanos to see the Anacondas. You have to go to Los Llanos in the dry season and I can't remember off hand when that is. I personally think Canaima is one of the most beautiful and under-rated places in the world.

If you are going to Kakadu, there is another park nearby that looks amazing in the few photos I have seen of it, but I can't tell you much more. It's called Karinjini National Park and the hiking in Weano gorge looks amazing. Never been there though...

Costa Rica has tons to offer, with great access but has become a bit touristy. Panama is like Costa Rica was 25 years ago with similar scenery and of course, the Darien Gap, one of the grand-daddys of all rainforests.

Sorry to add to the confusion, but maybe this will give you a few more options if some of the places you are considering are in the 'wrong' season in July.

I would go to Borneo. Because I have always wanted to visit a tropical rainforest. I would imagine the photography there to be more technically and physically difficult than anything I've ever shot.
