Matte paper suggestions?

I currently use Epson Enhanced Matte for proofing and Moab Entrada Natural for final prints. I use the 17" roll paper for finals. I am finding the Moab to be much to warm for my B&W images. The whites are just not white enough.

I am guessing that I will have to go with papers with OBA's. I am looking for suggestions for papers that will approximate the whiteness of the Enhanced Matte, but in an archival paper. I need a papers that come in rolls. Recommendations are appreciated.

Have you tired the Moab Entrada Bright White? I've been very happy with the results on B&W - of course B&W is very subjective so what pleases me might not work for you. Might be worth a try though.

Entrada Bright White has OBA's but does look much whiter and is supposed to maintain its brightness for a couple of decades.

My current favorite B&W paper is Hahnemuhle Satin, although it's not inexpensive. It gives the print a very attractive silvery look.

I'm using the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm and get excellent results with my R2400; the only catch is the cost $125 CAN for 20 - 13x19. If anyones know where to get it cheaper please let me know.

Good Luck,

Hi -- weighing in on this . . . I got a sample of the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag in my search for a good matte paper and was incredibly impressed with it. The only thing I don't like, going forward is how cream colored the paper is. So I also am looking for a good matte paper, equivalent to the Hahnemuhle, but that is whiter and is still 100% cotton.

Laurel,

Hanemuhle has a Photo Rag Bright White 310gsm give it a try, it may be what your looking for. Order the sample pack it contains all three Photo Rag.

Good Luck,

Thanks Marc .

I will order some more samples (the Photo Rag that I tried was a sample from www.inkjetart.com). I notice that www.inkjetart.com has Hahnemuhle PhotoRag 308 in 20 sheets of 13x19 for $89 US. I ran a currency conversion on $90 US and got $105. The site gives free UPS ground shipping for orders over $149. Maybe if you knew someone else to split a larger order with, and if you do get free shipping to Canada, it might be cheaper.

As for Harley's question for B&W the following link to the Hahnemuhle paper site refers admirably to a new digital photo paper they have and specifically comments on the high D-Max and bright whiteness of the paper.

http://www.hahnemuehle.com/index.php?mid=936&lng=us&pkat=1164

The site is well worth looking through; I've been searching the Internet for references to color space, D-Max, plus archival values of course, for various papers. I came across an article on "New Inkjet Papers" in the January/February "PHOTO Techniques" magazine (I picked up at Barnes & Nobles) and they referenced, positively, Crane Silver Rag and Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl.

I feel like a babe in the woods regarding paper. I have an Epson R2400. I will be sending out for some samples. I linked up with a site in Tampa! Thanks for all the info. Does anyone here use a fixative after printing? Any pros or cons about such a move. I am here to learn... the more I learn, the more I see have yet to learn...
