Moab Winter Panorama
Hey folks,

I wasn't able to get out today as I had hoped and had to settle for a quick trip up to Sand Flats (5 minutes from my house). The wind was whippin' and it was extremely chilly, though the light on the landscape belies the cold temps. I made this panorama of Mill Creek Canyon, sandstone fins and the La Sal Mountains surrounded by a blanket of clouds shortly before sunset. I like the clouds, but my wife does not. I'm posting this here for your thoughts. Does the image work with the peaks barely showing through the clouds? They are far more visible in the full resolution file but given our size constraints this is the largest image I could post.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions!

Too much sky for my tastes Bret.

Yeah, maybe a little too much blue real estate above the clouds, but tell the wife that the clouds are what make this image. They look positively roiling! Makes for a very dynamic landscape image. Looks like a fantastic perch all around.

Fantastic light, and I personally like the clouds. I think the mountains will stand out more in print vs. a tiny .jpg, and that would lend them the impact needed to balance the upper half of the image. I could see taking a little off the top as Todd suggested.

I like it, would love to see a large print too!

This place is 5 min from your house? I am very jealous!!!

I don't know whether the photo is tilted or not, but it looks that way.
I really like the clouds, and even on the small image I can see the cone peaks. Too much blue sky for me too.
Thanks for posting. :toast:

I vote for a little less sky as well. As Todd said, the clouds make the image.

I like the clouds too and also agree that a bit of the blue sky off the top would help. It looks like your horizon is in line with the cracks in the canyon, but it makes the mountains look unbalanced. You might try tilting this up on the right side a little bit. If this is five minutes from your house I know of a lot of people on this forum who would like to come and crash for a couple of days at your place, me included! Thanks for sharing.

Great light. Really like the detail.

Thanks for the comments! Looks like the consensus is to remove a bit of the blue sky on top. It may appear tilted because all the dominant landforms drop to the left. However, the horizon is dead level.

Yep, literally a five minute drive. I admit I live in one hell of a great place!
