Mark and I have been wanting to get out to the PHs when there was snow on them, for over a year now. Despite the sub zero temps in the morning, we made it out and wandered around the unit from sunrise to about noon.
I sorta liked how this little bit of color looked in contrast with the cold, snow covered hills.

I like it, Rick, it's a really well thought out comp.

Rick,
So you wake up at 1:45 am, Drive for five hours, shoot for five hours in the sub 0 temps, then back home. How can I not say good shot. I like your placement of the bush in the foreground. This shot could have been taken anywhere east of the cascades today. You can't really tell it's the Painted Hills.

The comp is well done but it's the splash of color among the black and white landscape that appeals to me. You guys were well rewarded for your efforts.

I like this - actually more than the shot you posted in ESS. Looks cold....

Sweet Rick. I like this alot. I like how the snow becomes the sky, and you wouldn't know the difference if it weren't for the outline of the hills.
A desolate winter landscape, nice job finding some color for the foreground to contrast the snow.

Stark and lonely. I think the comp. is good but not great. You probably did everything you could here.

Well, I went to bed Fri night at 11pm, woke up at 1:40 am, and couldn't wait to get out into the cold. It was cold, but I really didn't feel it much because I had good layers. I had mittens, but suprisingly enough to me, I just used my REI Black Diamond glove liners most of the time, and was fine. Those things are amazing.
As for the hills, I was a little let down, hoping it would be more amazing with the snow nestled in the crevaces. I decided to stop working images last night so I could get some sleep and get a fresh look at my shots today.
Now that I look at this, I think I like it a little better than the one I posted on ESS. Still...as Marc said...good, but not great.
Thanks for the comments.
