Hills, Painted
D2x
f/16 @ 1/80
70-200 mm @ 180

I've baked my brain out there, now, I've frozen my butt off.

Mark Hudon,
brainless, buttless.

Love the abstract nature of this. The contrast of colors, "splotches" of black, and tendrils of white are key.

This is awesome Mark. Thanks for sacrificing yourself for our enjoyment. Sweet image.

This is great, abstract and different. I haven't seen the hills photographed in these type of conditions, and this presentation seems to make the best of the conditions.

Mark,
Great looking abstract! Just how cold was it over there!!

Mark, this is just so darn weird I like it! A complete abstract in every sense. Really fascinating.

I dig this! I think cropping off the bottom showing the ground makes it an even cooler slightly more abstract shot. But cool color and snow mix.

I agree with John also, and might also crop the top for an alternative pano abstract across the middle.

Mark,
Excellent as composed...did you happen to shoot from The Viewpoint also? Wondering how extensive the snowfall was on the hills.

Steve,
We didn't spend any time shooting from the Viewpoint. The Hills were in the shade and had a lot of snow on them. This is a shot I took from the road. In hindsight, we should have shot more of that side but we were tired and cold and had a few hours driving home ahead of us.

This is the main hill.

This turned out really nice Mark.

Mark, This looks like the frayed edge of a butterflys wing. You can almost see the scales. :jump:

wow - that's wild! I like the first one. I have one similar without the snow... very good comp!

What everyone else said. I now subscribe to the expression---"I'm all over it." Print the top one, LARGE, and enclose in a big frame.

Mark - you sure have presented some nice winter shots of the Painted Hills. I like the abstract nature of these. The last shot, above, would make a nice abstract high-key image if you crop down from top and up from bottom to get just the hill and then increase the contrast a bit more.
