Barren
A lone, dead tree and backlight. En-route to the Alvord desert, Eastern Oregon. Let me know what you think, thanks.

Nice one.

Are you "seeing" in B&W at the time of capture, Marc, or do you play with them in PS later?

I like it, But I would also like to see a less tight crop if that is possible. The mood is presented very well in cool (as opposed to warm) BW tones.

Mark, this was absolutely a B&W from the start. The conversion was the first thing I did. The vast majority of my B&W's are visualized that way from the start, but occasionally I get some surprises.

David, yeah, I could see adding a little room - maybe on the left...

This is really neat. Looks like a special moment. I keep thinking I might have wanted the light to be more seperated away from the tree, but I cant make up my mind.

I like it - it's not too cramped for me. Did the diffused clouds really do the star-ish effect???

Very nice. If I had to find a nit, and a minor nit it is, I'd possibly like to see a tiny bit more room on the right.

It works for me the way it is, Marc. Nice feel to this.

It's hard to believe you came up with a tree like this in such a barren are. My guess is that you worked pretty hard to find this. This shot would work well printed large and framed for display in someone's business.

Marc,

Leave as it is. It's perfect - the type of B&W I look for.

This area of Oregon has a lot of lone dead trees like this. I found it near Princeton and Crane (pop. 5 towns SE of Burns). Yes, the diffused light was really pretty close to what you see here. The rays partially blocked by the cloud-cover were a nice compliment.
