After processing in Photoshop CS2, what are the differences and advantages/disadvantages of saving in .PSD vs .Tif?

PSD files are Adobe proprietary files. They can only be opened in image editing programs or file viewers that support them. TIFF files are a commonly recognized file type and can be opened by most image editor or display applications. TIFF files can be saved with or without compression and also support layers.

Hopefully, others will add to the list.

Preston is right. I still use PSD though for convenience.

Chioce between the two was driven by the eventual fate of the files in my case. I originally used PSD because my digital files were only being used for printing at home. Over time digital became more broadly accepted, so I found myself submitting digital files as well as sending files off to a lab for printing. As time wore on I found myself converting PSD to TIFF a little too often-- Both the clients and the labs wanted TIFFS. Now I almost never produce PSD files.
