I am planning to visit Huangshan in Sept-October this year. Anyone know the best place to stay for convenience regarding access to views of the mountains rising from the mist at dawn? Also would a 70-200mm lens on full-frame be adequate at the long end for such shots? Thanks.

I would do a lonely planet thorn tree search. I researched this area a little before my recent trip to Tibet. I remember the prices being quite a bit higher than the other areas of China I had visited. There is a small town called Tangkou at the bottom and another area a little farther up where there are hot springs- supposedly a bit nicer but also more expensive. If you want to shell out the big bucks there is the Beihai hotel on top that is nicely positioned for the sunrise. This is all second hand info though. I didn't have the time to get there. I can't wait to see the images you come back with. The place certainly looks incredible in the photos I've seen from there.

Thanks Mike. Looks like the Beihai it will have to be. Anything to maximise my chances of getting the shot
