A swath of the Ozarks is sheathed in ice tonight. Earlier in the day, I snapped this photo at about 1 pm. This liquidambar styraciflua (Sweetgum Tree) was encased in about 3/4 inch of ice.

The orientation of the photo is as shot. The icicle formed earlier in the morning, and as the weight of the tree increased, the limb dropped and turned the icicle to the left.

Here is a link to additional photos that show some of the devastation laid to thousands of trees in the area. Photos

Hope you all still have electricity! Our fireplace is keeping us toasty.

Boy that's some serious ice Rod! Hope you all are not doing without after this latest shot from mother nature. We have some messy conditions here but we didn't get anything like this. Forecasting some snow overnight but that should be the last of it for awhile. Glad you were able to get out for awhile. Keep warm and dry! :wavey:

Great stuff guys - please send some of that ice and snow - I'm getting tired of shooting just waterfalls...

Glad you weathered the storm OK. That's a lot of ice!! I think we were right on the line for the ice, and got very little.

That is some serious ice Rod! Looks like the big limbs missed the house. That is a good thing! Another Bradford pear bites the dust. They are usually the first to go when there is ice. Hopefully you still are one of the lucky ones to still have power. Ice makes for some pretty pictures but it sure makes a mess.

Tim watch for what you wish for. Gas up the generator.
