Red-bellied woodpecker
This male red-bellied woodpecker is king of the roost at my feeder. When he flies in everyone else moves to a waiting position. I've actually seen him rip lots of feathers out of other birds stupid enough to get too close. I guess I never really knew there was in fact a "pecking" order among birds!

Shot yesterday, 10D, 75-300 @ 200, 2.0 extension, 1/90 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400, curves, sel. color, sharpen

I'd probably move to a waiting position too if I ever got poked with this guy's beak.

Your last cardinal post is going to be hard to top Wayne, but this is still a nice shot - beautiful color, and detail where you need it. Are those white streaks snowflakes or sleet? Thanks for the post!

Nice detail and color Wayne, I like the streaks of snow/sleet gives a veiwer a sense of the weather. I have the same problem at my feeder, one of these woodpeckers show up and the rest move off. Lots of fun to watch though. Have a great day!

Boy, those streaks sure look like they could be scratches on your glass Wayne. This might be a good time to start shopping around for a new lens...

Come to think of it Bill, those streaks were on every shot I took that afternoon! I'm not sure I'm a good enough salesman to sell that story though ..... Unfortunately, sleet it is. Thanks for the comments.

Oh, and by the way, I just became a first time GRANDPA today!! Caden Gedney arrived healthy and happy at 3:42 this afternoon! My daughter is doing great and it's one big celebration here! :jump:
