Instead of bothering the NHM with queries about the rules... does anyone have any clarification on the rule about adjusting digital images: rule 3 allows sharpening, can this be to selective areas of a pic?
I have to be more carefull than usual with what I say this year As you can see I have been getting through to them.
Andrew.... as long as selective sharpening is not excessive and is not used to try and alter the image no probs.... i.e if you perform mild sharpening on a bird but not on the bg that is acceptable (to me at least), if you are using selective sharpening to try and bring back a slightly OOF area that is a no no.
Sharpening should be kept to the minimum.... the reason as always is that the printers etc will apply their own sharpening depending on the output....
Ah! I thought that the Comp admissions/rules etc for 2007 had been started/published...
I see that this years guidence is not out until the 20th Jan.
(I still doubt that I can enter )

All rules etc are in Feb edition of BBC Wildlife mag - mine arrived at the weekend - and I quote "Minor cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work are acceptable. Compositing and multiple exposures are not allowed. Sharpening is allowed. Cropping is allowed." Seems pretty clear and standard practice stuff to me.
