A couple of months ago, I had a gentleman contact me from photo.net. He was interested in one of my images for this project of his. He found this place that does laser etchings on granite from images...so this guy bought one of my stream shots for the project.
Well, this square you see is one of 3 big granite plates...so the image will be quite large. He is going to send me pictures of it installed...and I cant wait to see how it turned out.
The company who did the etchings wants to use my images (for a prices, of course) for other customers to choose from...and to display during their industry shows. They sent me 2 1' by 1' squares on another image of mine for a sample. It actually looks really neat...ya know, to have one of your images laser etched in granite. It's quite different.
Anyway...just thought I would share this because it is different...

That's really neat, Rick. Congrats on getting the nod from them on your shots. Did they etch your name into the granite also?
Maybe they'll send you enough that you could make granite kitchen countertop surfaces using them?

Lasts longer than Epson archival papers no doubt.

Interesting. Wonder how they create the various b&w tones in the granite. Perhaps some dye is applied during the laser etching. Sure is unique.

Wow, and kudos - very cool. Any idea who the target market/end use application for this is? I can envision them in the lobby of some fancy building, but was just kind of curious.
Rick, there was a guy at PIR raceway that was doing this with car, motorcycle, and airplane photos. Seems like he was asking $400.00 for like 11X14 size.

Geez...I thought I replied to this last night...but thanks for the comments and support. I think it is kinda neat and different.
The cost of doing the engraving is $60 per square foot...you provide the materials...or they can.
I can't wait to see it installed. I think mostly, these sorts of applications are for places like a lobby, or like the base of a fountain...n such. I am not sure exactly where this is going, but it is in his home. I will provide pics of the install when he provides it to me.
