Melting... melting....
I couldn't stand it any longer. Over 2 weeks into the New Year and not a photo to show for it. Ventured out into the neighborhood and caught this fern being released from the snow. I liked the drop off the end of the fern in front of the larger drop off the end of the snow.

D200; 105/2.8 macro. f 5.6 @ 1/160; ISO 400. Shame on me  . I left my QR plate at home, so NO tripod...
Photoshop: curves, sharpening.

Appreciate your stopping for a look and a comment. :wavey:

I like it! My only nit would be to have the focus be on the little water drop. Great colors and comp though.

For me this dosen't work due to lack of focus on the primary subject, the water drop. Those macro's are tough to get just right. F22 probably still would have blurred the background enough, but I can see why it wasn't possible without a tripod.

A good choice when stuck with this no tripod problem is to go to that 5FPS mode and as you teeter back and forth trying to stay in focus, one of the shots may be just what you wanted. :jump:

I would also like to see the leaf in focus. Believe me, I'm getting stir crazy myself. I can't wait to get back into the field.

This would be awesome if that droplet were in focus, or a little bigger part of the comp.

Interesting comp and well seen. I like the way you framed the small droplet with the bigger ice droplet in the background.

Thanks everyone. Well, I'm so goll durn frustrated. Lack of practice shows, and there's my nemesis again-- Getting the focus point right, esp. with shallow dof.
Erik L.: Oh, Brother. I'm with you. How's your shoulder?
Jerry: Thanks for including the tip to help with teetering. It wasn't the drink that was doin' it, either. I actually was doing the 5 fps thing, but I probably needed the AF-C setting? or my F6 for the 8 fps.
Eric H.: Thanks for the consolation. I thought the comp was cool. Too bad I couldn't make it work.
Moral of story: USE TRIPOD, so don't forget the mounting plate. AND try not to go so long without shooting. :frown: Arrrgghhh...

P.S. I tried another version and used a selective hipass sharpen on the little droplet. I think it helped with perceived sharpness there. Oh, well, a good ol' 'college try...'
