Great Crested Grebe Reflection
20D, 400mm, f7.1 @ 1/60, ISO 200, Tripod, FF
Hi all,
Finally getting round to looking at the hundreds of Grebe images I took at the nest last year - had many where I was experimentng with reflections as the water was so calm. This is very early morning light so dark but I like the calm atmosphere. This looks MUCH better at full size with detail etc but suffers from downgrading for the web. The breast isn't blown out on my calibrated monitor but is on my laptop
Anyway, do people like these kinds of images?
Cheers
Mark

Close ups are always nice, but taking a step back, like you have here, makes it more real for me. Nice shot, Mark.
The reflections works for me especially with that dead calm water, this shot just oozes with the still dull atmosphere you usually get to photograph in...well I do
Great shot
Hi Mark, agree with everything thats been said above.............superb capture

I love this Mark - it has a great authentic feel to it. The subdued light, stillness and enviroment all work together very well.
Just a small suggestion - the stick just behind the back of the grebe just needs darkening a touch it will be less noticeable.

Love this shot Mark, alot of people don't agree with nest photography but they should look at your image and I bet it would change their mind. Great Shot.
Really nice Mark, love the calm feel... agree with the other comments regards the twig behind the bird but know from experience it is often very difficult to get clear shots in these circumstances...

Great composure and wonderful soft light. No nits at all Has motivated me to search out my local grebe spots for this year, thanks.

NOOOOOOOO!!! I have 100's of these shot too....... at the same nest and what looks like from the same spot You just got around to processing them first! I didn't get one with this good a reflection I must admit... any pics you have without such a good reflection, I have 400 of those shots too Really enjoyed watching the pair and eventually the one chick they managed to produce
Really nice image Mark. A typical environment for them to nest in my limited experience and no nits at all... besides that big twig in front of the chest obviously

Great shot
Dull light really adds something to it. Lovely reflection and the greenery looks nice.
