Well after taking a tumble with my D100 the other week i have today had the estimate fixed to get it back ...£324, so i have decided to put that money towards a new camera instead so here are the choices and would like some advice if poss:

A D70s with Grip, a D200 or a D2H

What do you reckon guys???

Out of the bunch its between the D2H and D200. I had and still have a D2H, I think it's a great piece of kit but has it's limitations, you need good light and a whopping lens (I have an 800mm). The D200 is not a speed machine like D2H but gives you digital zoom, you can crop a lot and still have a few pixels. So if I didn't have my 800mm I'd go for the D200 as I'd probably get more shots, but as I do have the big lens I'd go for the D2H (can't beat that pro body). What else is there, the d2h has smaller files so easier to process and store, the 8 fps produces sharper shots as a side effect but I never had a real need for such a fast frame rate (except dragonfly flight shots) so I think 5 fps is generally adequate. You can shoot vertical without a grip easy enough, no big deal.
There you go, no idea, buy a lieca they cost alot so must be good.

Hi Andy

I had the D70 until early last year and liked it - it was a great intro to digital photography after decades of film work. I now have a D200 and can't praise it enough. I find it to be really intuitive to use, beautifully built and solid, along with good resolution and a superb meter. It is the first digital that I have used that feels as good as my old F3 and is (to my mind) the obvious choice out of the three you mention. The D2H is, I understand, a good sports and reportage machine (very quick) but I don't think that I would recommend it for wildlife photography now that the competition is so much improved.

Cheers

Malcolm

Hi Andy,

Another vote for the D200.

I have a D70 which is now used purely as a second body and is rarely used. The D200 is a superb piece of kit. I would also get the battery grip as I feel it makes the camera balance better plus its useful for vertical shots and the focus button can also be used for other functions, user selectable. I use mine to change focus points if things start to move wildly :-)

If you are anywhare near Rainham, essex, please pop in for a cuppa and you can see it in action.

Another vote for the D200 camp. I have just upgraded to a D2x (purchased from another forum member) but have lots of praise for the D200. I was going to advertise it for sale on here but in the end decided on trying my luck on good old eBay where its eagerly being watched, as I type, by no less than 49 people!

Its all been said already but the D200 was an upgrade for me from the D70 and I have never looked back......................

after a trip to the bank it looks like the D200 is not an option for a while, so, should i get my D100 fixed or buy a D70????
