Backlit Cormorant
Well I blew the cobwebs from the camera case yesterday and squinted at that bright yellow ball in the sky, wondering what it was
I captured this backlit cormorant with the intention of a B/W silhouette, but I quite like the colour version too.
1DS2, 500&1.4tc, wimberley, ISO 250, f10@1/1000 then just sharpened,FF.
Best wishes

I really like the effect here Phil. The colour adds to it but would work well either way. My only minor nit is that the right wing looks clipped due to the angle. Very nice silhouette.

Hi Philip,

Good to see you getting out with the camera... what is the sun anyway? we are just hunkering down and hiding from the strong gale force winds whipping through the south.

Like the idea here but I think you could make it more of a sillouette, the slight amount of detail in the shadow side isn't adding anything, I think I might just reduce the exposure a little to bring some more colour in and then increase the contrast which I think would emphasise the 'balletic' pose of this often seen as ungainly bird...

All the best

Beautiful image, but cant help thinking composition doesnt work fo me though - cant say why, maybe needs more space, or landscape?

Still a great shot though - I too like the soft muted colouring, and the feather detail and wings are just brilliant,

Cheers
