Hope everyone has managed to keep warm during this cold spell and managed to avoid broken pipes!
I was struck by the side lighting on this grove of aspens and the contrasts between them and the dormant grass. When I was out shooting on this particular day, I was looking for images which signify change. I think this could represent change, but as I look at it more I feel the theme of contrast over shadows change. Any thoughts on this one way or another.

I really like the concept here. I also like the color and 'mass' change between the grass and the trees. My only nit would be that the contrast in the trees is a bit too high. I might opt for pulling up the shadow detail and pulling the very high values down a notch. it is a very graphic image; and I like that.
I really like the more abstract images you've been posting lately.

After seeing this in jpg form here I think you're right and I over did the curves and sharpening a bit. Thanks for the comments.

Cory,
This is quite dramatic. When it started loading the first time, I had no idea what was coming. The grasses at the bottom really do put things in perspective and I think show the concept of change you were looking for. I do agree that the high contrast in the aspens is a bit much, but then again makes it a very dynamic image as is.

Thanks for taking the time to comment gentlemen. I really seem to be drawn more and more to making more abstract and "different" landscape images. You hit the nail on the head Lon about the high contrast making it more dynamic, which is what I was after. But I think I over did it a touch. Thanks again!
Cory, I'd have to say it gives a real stark feeling here between the dormant grass and what appears to be very leaf barren aspens. I do not think I have ever seen a grove or stand of aspens this thick, I mean I cannot see how you could get though this thicket at all. Very unique scene IMO.

Cory,
I really like what you are going for here. A little less contrast and you should be golden.
I am glad to see that you are attempting to push the envelope and make images that are not always the "pretty picture" thing. Kudos!
