I'm planning a trip to Glacier in the Fall. I was thinking either late August or early September. Mostly I'm hoping for Mule deer, Mountain goats and Bighorn sheep. Is it anywhere near as crowded as Yellowstone in August? Would September be the better bet considering weather, the rut, crowds? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've only been to Glacier once and that was in September. It wasn't nearly as crowded as Yellowstone in August. If had to go again, I'd pick July. The reason being a snowstorm hit the week we were there in September and effectively closed the park for several days. It was then I decided I'd rather deal with crowds at Logan Pass or Many Glacier in July than be stuck around Kalispell waiting for the roads to reopen.
I was there in mid-August once and it was lovely. The crowds may have been down due to fires on the west side. Flowers seem to stick around later than CO, as in the attached image. BH sheep and goats were abundant on Logan Pass and I saw some grizz near Many Glacier.

Bryan...
I would look at early September. Most of the concessions close after Labor Day and the park thins out significantly. Everything in the towns around Glacier close down as well shortly thereafter.
We were there at the end of September a couple of years ago and found limited services all around the park. We also found ourselves waiting for the roads to open after a brief, early season snowstorm. Once they did though - it was spectacular!
Good luck with your trip...

When the weather starts getting a little better in the Spring, start checking in with the park. They suffered some extensive damage up there in the storms this past Fall, and the season for repairs is short. Hopefully by late August they will have made the necessary repairs...
